Keep Your Existing Phone Number
No Porting Required—Start Using AI in Minutes
Your phone number is your brand. That's why AI Receptionist lets you keep your existing number using simple call forwarding. No complicated porting process, no downtime, no hassle—just dial a star code and your AI receptionist starts answering calls instantly.

Why Call Forwarding Is Better Than Number Porting
Unlike traditional phone services that require you to port (transfer) your number—a process that can take days or weeks and creates potential downtime—call forwarding lets you start using AI Receptionist immediately. Simply dial a star code from your phone (*72 for most carriers), enter your AI receptionist number, and every incoming call is instantly routed to your AI assistant. Your customers never know the difference—they call the same number they always have.
Call forwarding gives you flexibility that porting can't match. You can toggle it on and off instantly (*73 to disable), set up conditional forwarding to only route calls when you're busy or don't answer, or switch back to your old system anytime without waiting for carrier approval. Your number stays with your existing carrier, so you maintain full control. It's the fastest, safest, and most flexible way to add AI receptionist capabilities to your business—no technical expertise required, no service interruption, and no risk.
Keep Your Personal Number Private
One concern many business owners have with call forwarding: "If I forward calls to my cell phone, won't customers see my personal number?" The answer is no—and we've built an even better solution. Our Boss Mode's Masked Callback feature lets you return customer calls using your business number as the caller ID, not your personal cell phone. When you need to call a customer back, Boss Mode initiates the call through your AI receptionist number, so customers only ever see your professional business line. You maintain complete privacy while staying responsive to your customers.
Call Forwarding Instructions
Star codes are special dialing commands that begin with an asterisk (*) and grant quick access to advanced calling features. Two primary functions include:
Call Forwarding: Automatically redirects all incoming calls from your phone to a designated number. This feature can be used to transfer calls directly to your AI Receptionist, bypassing your own line entirely.
Conditional Call Forwarding: Redirects calls only when you don't answer—much like voicemail. This gives you the flexibility to answer some calls personally while using the AI Receptionist as a call screener for others.
Keep in mind that these codes can vary by carrier, so be sure to use the specific codes provided by your service provider. For example, if you're using Verizon Wireless for your cellphone, enable call forwarding by dialing (from your cellphone) 72 followed by the 10-digit number you want your calls forwarded to (*72 12344567890). To disable call forwarding, simply dial *73.
