SMS Opt-In and Opt-Out
Last updated: October 2, 2026
AI Receptionist answers phone calls for small businesses. Our customers (the business owner and the team members they add) can choose to get text messages about their own account: a notice after each call, a daily call summary, a heads-up when a caller is being transferred to them, and system messages about their account. This page covers those account notification messages.
How users opt in
SMS is off by default. A user can only turn it on from inside their logged-in AI Receptionist dashboard:
- The user signs in and goes to Settings, where they enter their own mobile phone number in their contact information.
- Next to that number they tick one of the SMS checkboxes: Instant SMS Notifications, Scheduled SMS Notifications, Direct SMSes from AI Receptionist, or the warm transfer SMS option.
- Ticking the box opens the consent dialog shown below, which links to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. SMS stays off unless the user taps I Understand. If they tap Cancel, the box stays unchecked and nothing is sent.
- Each type of message has its own checkbox and asks for consent separately.
Agreeing to SMS is not a condition of buying or using AI Receptionist. Every feature still works with SMS turned off, and notifications can be delivered by email instead.
The opt-in form
This is the same form a user sees in Settings. Enter a mobile number and tick the box to open the consent dialog, exactly as it works in the dashboard. Nothing on this page sends a text message or stores the number. SMS can only be turned on from inside a signed-in account.
Enter a valid mobile number to enable the SMS checkbox.
Instant SMS notifications are on. Untick the box or reply STOP to any message to opt out.
See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
The consent text in the dialog reads:
By tapping "I Understand", you agree to receive instant call notification SMS messages from AI Receptionist. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by unchecking this box or by replying STOP. Reply HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
The other SMS options show the same dialog, worded for that message type, with the same links to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Messages users receive
- Instant notifications: one message after each call, with the caller's details and a short summary.
Example: "Call Summary: Jane Doe (555) 010-2233 - Wants a quote for a kitchen repair. Review: https://api.ai-receptionist.com/s/AbC123 Update settings or reply STOP to unsubscribe." - Scheduled notifications: one summary per day at a time the user picks.
- Warm transfer alerts: a message when a caller is being transferred to the user, so they can accept or decline.
- Direct messages: account and system messages, such as service notices.
How often messages arrive depends on how many calls the business gets. Message and data rates may apply.
How users opt out
- Reply STOP to any message. Texts to that number stop right away, and one final message confirms the opt-out.
- Or uncheck the SMS box in the dashboard at any time.
- Reply HELP for help, or email support@ai-receptionist.com.
